$10 million settlement
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- Philip Cote said he's trying to remain positive. "I try to look ahead, not back, there's nothing I can do about it."
Nothing to do but move forward now that a jury has awarded him $10 million.
Brian Breedlove, Cote's Attorney, said, "This really isn't a large verdict, it's the largest verdict in Warren County, but it's also a fair verdict. And people like Phil who have sustained these horrific injuries really should be able to go back to court and get back what they lost."
In Phil's mind, he lost a sense of normalcy. "I can't get a full time job because with one arm I don't have the energy, plus there's a metal rod in my leg, I can't do dishes, I can't do laundry."

For the past two and a half weeks, a court has been hearing the details of the accident on the night of July 7th, 2005, when Cote's motorcycle collided with a UPS truck.
Breedlove said, "He tried to get to the left, but he didn't have any time. There were two cars coming at him straight, he couldn't break cause he would've dumped the bike, so for a few brief moments, Phil Cote was staring at heaven's gate."
"I was in a lot of pain. I had three chest tubes, my lungs collapsed, multiple surgeries, just a lot of pain," Cote said.
Cote says it was the support from his family that helped him get through the ordeal, and to where he is today.
"I have two little boys to look out for, my dad's always there when I need him, I have really good friends," he said.
Those friends, and now the settlement will help to ease his suffering, but it can never bring back what he lost.
Cote said, "Obviously I would want my arm back. The money's nice, it'll help send my kids to college. Money's nice, but money's not everything."
