The Olympic history of Lake Placid
The village of Lake Placid and its Olympic glory days are the subject of a new documentary being released this week.

"Lake Placid: An Olympic History" that tells the story of the Adirondack village that gave America its greatest Winter Olympic triumphs. The film is being released on DVD this Friday, the day the Olympic Winter Games begin in Turin, Italy.

The feature-length documentary chronicles the rise of Lake Placid from an unknown mountain village to a winter sports Mecca that hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980.

The documentary tells the town's story through old films and photographs blended with audio recordings unearthed from local archives.

Among those featured are Godfrey Dewey, who brought the 1932 Olympics to the village; Jack Shea, the hometown hero who won two speedskating gold medals at the 1932 Games; and members of the U.S. hockey team that beat the Russians at the 1980 Games.
