Robotics teams prep for competition
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Local high school teams participated in a robotics showcase before heading off to regionals in a few weeks. Teams from Colonie, Shaker, Ballston Spa, Shenendehowa and Albany took part in the Tech Valley FIRST Robotics Showcase Exhibition on Saturday.
Teams have a six week period to build their robots after the game is unveiled on the first weekend after New Year's. Saturday was a chance for teams to test out their robots in the spirit of friendly competition. The event organizer says it's not as much about winning now, but it's more about getting experience.

"For the kids, this is an opportunity for them to practice on this surface before they go to an official regional competition and it helps give them that edge," said organizer Rose Barra.
The regional competition is scheduled for the second week in March.
