ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Regional Food Bank's backpack program has expanded to include four schools in Albany.
Peanut butter, bread, cereal, tuna and pasta are pantry staples filling up backpacks to keep kids from going hungry. These basic items are a critical lifeline for children at-risk for hunger.
The program is made possible through the CDPHP annual holiday appeal, which also kicked off Tuesday.
"Just last week, we expanded our backpack program, where we provide pack packs full of child friendly food to children in need. Children who are risk of hunger. We expanded that from three schools to seven, just this past week, so we're very excited about that," said Mark Quandt, Regional Food Bank Executive Director.
The program also operates in schools in Schoharie, Troy and Warrensburg.
