ALBANY, N.Y. -- There is a new face in the race for New York Governor. Howie Hawkins has announced that he will seek the Green Party nomination for the state's top office.
The Syracuse resident has previously been the Green Party nominee for the U.S. Senate and State Comptroller. He says as Governor he will tax Wall Street in order to invest in Main Street and restore cuts to schools and other public services.
"We see the basic issue in this campaign is whether our state government is going to be for the people or continue to serve the super rich and the giant corporations. Is it going to represent Main Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard or continue to represent Wall Street? We are running because we are on the side of the people," said Hawkins.
A strong supporter of ethics reform, Hawkins say he is disgusted by the political corruption and special interests that dominate the state Capitol.
