MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Pets Alive is looking for homes for the beagles rescued from a bankrupt medical lab. The dogs had been left to die at the New Jersey facility.
But Pets Alive has taken in 90 of them-and is working with other shelters to find families for them. Saturday, people got the chance to meet the beagles and play with them.
Pets Alive's executive co-director says they're getting a lot of help taking care of the dogs.
"It's a great thing that the community has been stepping up. The local shelters, when we reached out to them and said we had this mass rescue, immediately volunteered to take what they could and help us out with that," said Kerry Claire.
The dogs should be ready to adopt within a few days. Pets Alive is also trying to raise money to help with the costs. And anyone who donates $25 or more gets to name one of the beagles.
