The Knickerbocker Mansion in Schaghticoke has turned into a film set for "Her Telling Heart," an adaptation based on Edgar Allen Poe's classic "The Tell-Tale Heart."
"I know that horrors are very popular in culture today and that's not really my direction, but I thought, OK, let's look at this, this is a piece of classic literature," said producer/director Heidi Philipsen.
This crew met as extras in Albany during the filming of "The Other Guys." That's when they decided to make their own film.
"Things just started happening and coming together. I had Knickerbocker Mansion being offered to us as a set. This are up here, I just can't believe the locations...it's phenomenal," said Philipsen.
The story follows a young women's obsession with an old man's "evil eye," which is told through a combination of present-day narration and flashbacks.
"The past was 1843, that's when it actually happened, and then I added another 15 years and let's make that the present day. This person is recalling what happened, so that's the present, and then we go into the past of the actual murder," said Philipsen.
Writing a screenplay adaptation, finding a cast and crew, and setting up shooting locations can be a lot of work as it is, but for this production there was also something else...applying for fiscal sponsorship with the New York Women in Film and Television.
"And got it, and as a result, it's charitable endeavor, everyone who's made donations to my film has been able to get tax deductions as a result, as they would towards any other non-profit organization," said Philipsen.
And after all this work comes distribution.
"We're going to have a sneak preview of course here in Albany. That's to be announced. I'm hoping to do a VIP party here at Knickerbocker. That will be great, and we'll go from there," said Philipsen.
As the "telling tale" continues.
