SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Some students at Schenectady County Community College can now get a full college experience.
More than 200 students moved into the brand-new College Suites at Washington Square Friday morning. Some of the features include a community kitchen, fitness center, game room and a student lounge.
Troy-based United Group Companies built the dorms.
The move-in day is bittersweet, because earlier this month, the company's founder, Walter Uccellini, and Vice Chairman James Quinn, were involved in a plane crash in Saratoga County. Uccellini died in the crash and Quinn died from his injuries earlier this week.
"It has been a tough couple weeks for us. We lost Walter and we lost Jim. It has been very difficult. So to have something today that we can celebrate as an entire team and see the happy faces on everybody moving in is a testimony to everybody and all the hard work do," said Jeff Buell, Development Executive at United Group.
The SCCC housing complex cost $11 million.
