CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The "Rock the Red" event scheduled for next week at Charlotte's Bojangles Coliseum has been canceled. That word comes from the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority officials who say the event organizers did not meet their financial obligations to the coliseum.

Rock the Red was planned as an alternative to the Democratic National Convention on the day before President Barack Obama's speech at Bank of America Stadium. Travis Tritt and the Charlie Daniels Band were some of the performers scheduled to be there.

It was not affiliated with the GOP Party, but was being organized by a small group of Charlotte-area Republicans.

There's no word on whether they will try to hold the event at another venue.
