CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte in 2012 Convention host committee welcomed delegates from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The committee welcomed about 1,000 delegates to a welcome eve, but there were 11 others happening across Charlotte Sunday night.

There are a total of about 6,000 delegates in the Queen City during DNC week.

The welcome event venues were chosen to try and represent the diversity, culture, landscape and history of the Charlotte region.

Committee members also said by splitting up the events, it expands business opportunities to companies across the region.

Several delegates said they are very energetic and excited. For many, this is their first convention and they say they're already blown away.
