CHARLOTTE – President Barack Obama arrived in Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon for the Democratic National Convention.

Air Force One touched down just after 2:30 p.m.

The president spent about a half hour meeting servicemen and family members at the Air National Guard base where he landed and took pictures with several families and onlookers.

Obama's motorcade left the base and traveled to south Charlotte, where he is expected to be staying at the Ballantyne Hotel.

Obama will accept the Democratic nomination Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Arena.
