Libertarian candidate running in 20th District
NIVERVILLE, N.Y. -- There's been a whole lot of debate Friday between 20th District candidates Republican Jim Tedisco and Democrat Scott Murphy over a series of upcoming debates. One candidate says he'll debate whenever and wherever you want. And you probably haven't ever heard of him.
Eric Sundwall is a professional IT consultant from Niverville N.Y. with two children and a wife. Sundwall is the Libertarian Party's candidate for the special election.
Sitting in his campaign headquarters, with maps of the district in front of him, he says the national and state party got behind him so he got into the race.
“In a special election we would see a lot lower turnout, we think with an independent coalition or group, we can really do some decent damage if you will,” said Sundwall.
But, Sundwall says the number one thing on people's minds is the way the way the federal government is handling the financial crisis. And he disagrees with both of his opponents’ opinions on the bailout.
“I'm against that plan, and what you will find is that the average politician is going to want to say that they brought money home to the district. Unfortunately, they never consider how much money leaves the district to get that money to come back,” said Sundwall.

Sundwall says his campaign is underway. He says statewide supporters are heading here to help and he is reusing signs and a website left over from his last run in 2006. That run ended when district boards of elections tossed out more than 600 of the 3500 signatures needed to get on the ballot.
“It's impossible being a third party candidate. You can't get on the ballot, you can't raise money. It's one of the most humbling things in life,” said Sundwall.
At least this time, his life as a candidate only lasts until March 31.
