Lawmakers vote in favor of agreement
St. Lawrence County lawmakers voted in favor of a labor agreement that would use unionized labor to build a new jail.
An independent study issued by the county showed the deal would save hundreds of thousands of dollars on the project.
Legislators voted nine to six to use the agreement. But first, lawmakers listened to members of the public voice their opinion at a special board meeting.
The study shows the deal will save $270,000, or 5%, of the $32 million project.
