COLONIE, N.Y. -- People in Colonie get a chance to check out plans to privatize the town's landfill. But opponents say, not so fast.

It is a deal that could radically change one of Colonie's most valuable assets, but opponents say it is all being done in secret.

The town board held an information meeting Wednesday morning to discuss details of leasing the town dump to an outside company.

It is a 20-year, $100 million agreement that Town Supervisor Paula Mahan said would help close the town's $20 million budget gap.

But former DEC commissioner, Denise Sheehan, who is running for Mahan's seat this fall, said it might not be such a good deal.

She is calling for the town to release more information about how the private bidder plans on making changes in the landfill's operation, which are currently run by the town.

Sheehan said, "Well it may be the impact is greater than we anticipated. Maybe something happened with the contract that the town was unhappy. There are number of things that may a rise."

The town board plans to vote on the agreement by the end of July.
