ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County diners will soon be able to learn exactly how clean and sanitary their favorite watering holes are due to a new law. Starting Sunday, county restaurants must post their latest Department of Health inspections in a visible, conspicuous place in their establishment.

The ratings can be excellent, good, fair or fail, which is similar to New York City's code with letter grades that must be posted in the restaurant windows. It is all due to a new amendment to the county's sanitary code. Any restaurant that refuses to comply can face varying fines up to $2,000. It is a rolling process though, as health inspectors will continue their schedule inspecting restaurants, so the ratings will be posted gradually.
