LONDON, ENGLAND -- The gold-medal dreams come to an end for another local Olympian.
Judo competitor Kyle Vashkulat lost in the first round of the half-heavyweight division. The Burnt Hills High School graduate lost to a fighter from Uzbekistan.
The 22-year-old was the youngest competitor in his division. He trained locally with Nick Delpopolo, who was also knocked out of competition Monday.
Their coach, Jason Morris of the Glenville Judo Center, won silver back in 1992. The US has still never placed gold in a Judo competition.
Vashkulat's fellow competitor, Nick Delpopolo, is tweeting from London. "Nick for Gold" tweeted "Tough loss for my good friend and fellow Olympian Kyle Vashkulat. Proud of you man and happy we're on this journey together."
