ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- Work has begun on a rehab project at the Rotterdam Boys and Girls Club.
Volunteers broke ground Saturday on the weeklong effort at the club on Curry Road. Organizers say they've received tens of thousands of dollars in donations, as well as supplies, materials and even professional help.
The planning for the rehab project began about a year ago when a local mother dropping her kids off their noticed the building was in need of repair.
“These kids deserve a great place to go to. The Boys and Girls Club offers so much, people don't realize that and this building hasn't been touched for 80 years. So it's really a small time doing great things,” project coordinator Darlene Zeh said.
Organizers say the project costs about $150,000, but much of that is being covered by donations and work being done for little or no cost.
