WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- St. Patrick's Day is usually a day of celebration, but it's a different story for Saint Patrick's Church in Watervliet. Since the church is in danger of being torn down, a group called Citizens for Saint Patrick’s is planning another vigil.

In December, a judge approved the one million dollar sale of the historic building to Nigro Companies. The plan is to demolish the church and replace it with a grocery store and retail complex.

Citizens for Saint Patrick’s have fought the plan. They hope the city's Zoning Board of Appeals will determine the demolition permits were not issued correctly.

The group wants to have the school and living quarters on the property sold as residential housing. They said selling those buildings would allow the city more time to decide what to do with the 100-year-old building.

Sunday night's vigil is at 6 p.m. outside the church.
