"It was always me and my dad. He would always take me and show me around," remembers Scott Micoli.

Micoli said even back then, at age five, he knew one day he'd be in the family business.

He said, "To have something passed down from generation to generation is special to me to be able to work with my father."

Scott and his dad Bob are stone carvers. Bob's grandfather opened the company back in 1935.

Bob Micoli said, "I was attracted to the art more than anything and I took a couple courses in high school, mechanical drawing and drafting and that's been my main job description in the business here."

They design, sketch and carve just about anything onto stone. Granite monuments are 90 percent of their business, address markers, garden stones and commemorative bricks make up the rest.

Bob also said, "Every symbol that we put on the stone whether it is a flower or a religious emblem all have meaning. All families have specific ideas of what they want to memorialize when they come in."

"In my mind it is putting them at ease and comfort wherever they might be and once the stone is completed they can have their final rest and memories to be looked at as the stone," added Scott.

Public displays like the Veteran's Memorial in Greece and the brick path surrounding the 9/11 memorial in Brockport are projects the Micoli's are most proud of.

Scott also said,"I put a lot feeling into my work and each particular one is individual letters and designs. I always thought of it as a really special gift that I have to offer to people."

"You realize that what you put on the stone is going to be there forever," said Bob.

That's why they say they pay close attention to detail -- they're creating permanent memories for families.

Bob said, "It is very gratifying once you have completed the job, when they give you a hug and say thank you."

For Scott, he's thankful his dad showed him how. He said, "I haven't really put into words how emotional it is to work with my dad."
