Eastern drought is improving

By: Capital News 9 web staff

A soggy October has turned the Eastern Seaboard green and eased drought conditions in several states.

The National Weather Service said rainfall in several eastern states has neared 150 percent of normal for the past 30 days.

The rain flooded stream beds and recharged aquifers from Maine to Georgia, causing a rise in groundwater levels crucial for farming.

However, the weather service said all the rain isn't enough to completely end the drought. Most areas are expected to experience drought conditions until at least January.
