Thanks to mobile devices, the ability to sit down, even at a very young age, and learn some serious stuff like science in very fun and engaging ways anytime, anywhere is easily one of the biggest advantages kids today have over kids who were kids when I was a kid.

Rounds: Franklin Frog

Rounds: Franklin Frog, for example, allows children as young as three to listen to the story of Franklin the frog and learn everything about his life by helping him do all the things frogs do: swipe to jump, move your finger around to swim, tap on flies and bugs to eat. Even as Franklin helps spawn some tadpoles, you get to help grow those tadpoles and then the story is retold through their eyes and the cycle continues until Franklin is born again.

"Sid the Science Kid Read and Play"

And a popular science "teacher," so to speak, is making his way to mobile devices in a new way, for him at least. Sid the Science Kid had an app for a bit but now he's out with an interactive eBook "Sid the Science Kid Read and Play." The eBook includes two stories, "What's that Smell?" and "The Trouble with Germs," both of which teach kids about how the world of molecules and germs works.

In addition to the books, there are sing-along videos, coloring pages and an interactive game that helps kids get even deeper into their five senses. Plus, there's a virtual sticker book and a spot the difference game. It's all geared towards that 3-to-6-year-old audience.

Sid the Science Kid Read and Play is $2.99 for iPhones and iPod touches and $3.99 for iPads.
