This old, historic elevated rail line doesn't carry freight trains anymore. It carries people! Because now, it's a park! The High Line has been recreated into a green zone and is now one of the most unique public parks in New York City.

If 'you're going to be hanging out here on your visit to the city, you need to know that there are nine access points along the 1.5 miles of park reaching north and south between 10th and 11th avenues. A few stairs up and you're in a whole different world above the hustle and bustle. The High Line is fully wheelchair accessible with elevators at 14th, 16th and 30th streets. No matter where you enter the park, there's always something new for young and old.

The almost 200 different plant species all along the High Line create a sense of calm insulating you from the noise below. It's almost quiet at times. You can almost imagine back in 1934, the freight line carrying meat to the meatpacking district, agriculture to the factories and warehouses of the industrial west side.

Open every day, this time of year, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
