From the 1940s through the 1970s, the popular build for homes was the ranch style, which features a close to the ground approach of one floor living. Much like many fads, what is old is new again and there is an increasing interest in the home building market for these kinds of homes.

"It's becoming pretty popular with us, and a lot of our designs in the past two years have been geared towards that. We've got a number of different designs that we offer: master suite on one side, auxiliary bedrooms on the other or study or common area on the other side for privacy," explained Mike Waldron, custom home builder.

With renewed popularity, however, someone interested in building their own ranch-style home will want to make sure theirs stands out from others.

"I think it's in design when we start with the structure and flow," Waldron said. "We've got niche build-ins in the mud room, as well as our breakfast nook area. We have a well designed kitchen that is open, spacious, has good storage and also has a lot of architectural flavor."

When it comes to making your home stand out from the rest, design and structure are important, but one element of home building that is just as important is the location where you are building and how it is placed on your building lot.

"The beauty and nature of being here on the mountain with public utilities, sewer, water, natural gas is just really a diamond in the rough. It's hard to find in the vicinity. The property itself here at Ridgeview and the placement of the home has just as much to do with what we put in the home and how we designed it," noted Waldron.

And remember, once you've built your new home, you are the interior decorator and the landscaper. Both of those home aspects can also make your new home stand out even more.
