Getaway Guy: Covered Bridge Getaway
There aren't many historic covered bridges left in New York State, but the ones that remain make for fun getaways!

One of my favorites is a private covered bridge in the Leatherstocking Region that you can walk through, not drive. The 'Hyde Hall Bridge' can be found in Glimmerglass State Park, just north of Cooperstown on Otsego Lake, Otsego County. She is 53 feet long and is the oldest surviving covered bridge in our state!
Another great find is 'The Newfield Bridge' in the Town of Newfield, N.Y., just a few miles south of Ithaca off of Route 13. Built in 1853, the covered bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also the oldest surviving covered bridge still open to 'vehicular traffic'.
