If you have a child in the house who's into learning about animals, two of the biggest names in wildlife are launching some new mobile apps to help satisfy their curiosity.

First up, the National Wildlife Federation has an interactive version of Ranger Rick's Treehouse. When the app launches there you are in the treehouse with loads of activities to choose from, the anchor here is probably the stories about the animals, as you read along tap icons to get jokes, sounds, or the stamp button on top to leave your mark, or rather the animals mark, right there on the page. Outside of that there are games, here you teach a dolphin tricks, funny pictures of animals, funny videos of animals, an all along as you do different activities like complete trivia challenges, you earn animal badges. Ranger Rick's Treehouse is an iPad only app that's $4.99 for a single issue, $19.99 for a five-issue, one year subscription.

And National Geographic is out with a new game that throws in loads of learning about animals. Called GeoDash: Wild Animal Adventure you are Geo the robot trying to navigate your way through earth's habitats. On each level you have to collect a bunch of items, among them, a key to get you through the portal to the next level. Thing is, the key is usually in a spot that requires you use a special ability. You get that special ability as soon as you run over this token on each level, it'll then given you the power of a certain animal…run fast like a cheetah, dig like an armadillo, or like you see here, have the power of an elephant so that you can knock down that wall. Once you complete a level you get an animal card, so to speak, with a picture, and three tabs: Animal Stats, Weird but True, and Just Joking. GeoDash: Wild Animal Adventure is an iOS app for free.
