Spitzer defiant, wants to go ahead with license plan
The State Senate and Assembly have gone home for the week after special sessions on Monday and Tuesday.
But while they left, the issue of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants continues to hang over the capital like a cloud.
Governor Spitzer's plan is facing heavy opposition among the public and Spitzer answered questions about why he is going forward with it despite the bad poll numbers.
"The technology we are going to put in place in our dramatically increased security system for drivers licenses, that technology has been tested and has been used in many many states. And most importantly we won't begin to use it until it has been tested and verified from every possible perspective, and so we are confident in the technology."

Earlier this week, the Senate passed a bill requiring a social security number in order to get a driver's license.
Assembly Republicans tried to force a vote on the issue, but couldn't. Now they are considering legal action.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced that he is prepared to defend the Governor's plan and expects to win any legal challenge against it.
