While it's certainly not impossible to find your dream house on the market, it may prove very difficult. Let's face it, the only way to truly get everything you want is to build it from the ground up. That's where custom home builders come in. If you've got a vision, builders like Scot Trifilo can make it a reality.

"We took that farm house down, that small home down and I saved a lot of the materials. I saved most of the flooring and the beams. There was an old grist mill wheel that we saved. They're all here, in and around the home," explained Scot Trifilo, Terrace Home Builders.

The house he is referring to, is his own. He specializes in creating old world charm with new construction. His goal, with his own house, was to capture some of that lost Americana architecture, but include the 21st century conveniences.

"I try to create homes that look like they've been here for years and years. Oly style home that are architechturally correct," noted Trifilo. "White farmhouse, white barn, metal roof. Very quaint, very simple lines, very clean lines, yet full of today's modern amenities."

Those amenities aren't just appliances or other new technologies. What might looks like a farmhouse from the turn of the 20th century on the outside, is actually an open, flowing floor plan on the inside with the ever popular first floor master.

"The kitchen is open to the dining room and into the great room. It's a very warm and friendly space for entertaining. It's just one big gathering place. There's also a master suite on the first floor. I've got a separate theater room about the garage off the mud room," said Trifilo.

If you're looking to build your own dream house, working with a builder like Trifilo, who takes you through every step of the process from siting your house properly on the lot to picking trim and floors, is really the only way to go.
