LATHAM, N.Y. -- This weekend, we thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country.
Ahead of Memorial Day, a remembrance ceremony honoring the men and women of the military who gave their lives while serving was held at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs State Headquarters in Latham.
Service members say it's important to remember those who died for a cause greater than themselves.
"In order to continue, to have their memory to live on is a sign to those that follow that you won't be forgotten," said Adjutant General Pat Murphy of the New York Army National Guard.
The Division of Military and Naval Affairs began holding pre-Memorial Day ceremonies at its headquarters in May 2005.
