Two popular establishments were robbed at gunpoint in the Town of Wallkill. As YNN's Eva McKend reports, police believe the incidents may be related.
WALLKILL, N.Y. -- Brandishing guns and covering their faces with bandanas, two men entered the Denny's in Wallkill and demanded money.
It happened early Friday morning on Route 211.
"It was a fairly brazen robbery, going into a commercial establishment and removing money from the place," said Robert Hertman, Town of Wallkill Police Chief.
Hours before, and less than a quarter of a mile away, Smoker's Choice was also robbed at gunpoint.
The store is located in Wallkill Plaza across the street from Denny's. Police said the men involved in both robberies have similar descriptions.
"It is kind of frightening that a robbery happened around here. It’s usually a nice area," said Hector Santana, an employee in the shopping plaza.
The suspects took off in an unknown direction.
There was one person eating food at Denny's during the crime. Now, police hope the witness will be able to assist with the investigation.
"Initially there were some problem getting the register open, but after a short time one of the employees was able to hand over an undetermined amount of currency," said Hertman.
Police also canvassed the area for videos.
