LATHAM, N.Y. -- A Capital Region organization is helping young women have the time of their lives, even if their families can't foot the bill.
The Cinderella Project collects clean, gently used gowns and accessories no more than five years old and distributes them to needy teens to wear to prom.
Sunday's event at California Closets in Latham is the first of many collections the Cinderella Project will hold before its Boutique Day next spring and organizers say it was a success.
"People have been very generous. And many times, it's not just one dress they're donating. We get bunches of like eight to ten that people bring in, which we have certainly experienced today and we are very grateful for the support. It will be ten years in come next year and people have been consistently generous and cooperative with our efforts. And we're proud to still do it for the Capital Region," said Cinderella Project Vice President Jay Bobbin.
The organization also accepts cash donations to help pay for cleaning, repairs and storage of the dresses.
