SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- SAFE Act charges have been dismissed against the man accused of selling an assault-style weapon on Facebook without conducting a background check.
William Greene's arrest was the first made under the New York SAFE Act in the area, but District Attorney James Murphy dismissed charges under that law.
Greene did plead guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
DA Murphy says the type of gun Greene tried to sell has been illegal since the 1960s. He was given a conditional discharge, as long as he surrendered the gun to State Police.
