FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- A 14-year-old has been charged with manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment in connection to the death of Gary Cota, 13.
The boy, whose name is not being released because of his juvenile status, will appear in family court on Monday.
The charges allege the boy acted recklessness in causing the shotgun to misfire, killing Cota in the bedroom of his Fort Edward home in June of 2012. Authorities say they know the teen didn't intentionally shoot Cota and the charges reflect reckless actions, not intent.
Police say Cota was accidentally hit in the head and he died at the scene from those injuries.
