NEW YORK STATE -- Some changes are on the way for next month's goose hunting season.
The season dates are similar to past years, but higher bag limits and other special measures will be allowed this year. It's all being done to help trim the goose population that continues to be too high in many areas.
An estimated 200,000 birds nest in New York. The population continues to grow despite hunters killing more than 50,000 birds each year.
The new regulations are posted on the DEC website at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28496.html.
