FORT PLAIN, N.Y. -- Saturday marked the first official Community Rebuilding Day in Fort Plain.
The event is hosted by the Fulton Montgomery County Long Term Recovery Committee. It is all part of the effort to help those who were devastated by this summer's flooding.
More than 100 volunteers worked on nine projects including muck outs, demolition, mold remediation, sheet rocking, and plumbing.
According to organizers, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
"A lot of the houses are not ready to be worked on yet, because the humidity is so high still, that its not yet the time to rebuild. So there are some houses we are staggering off. We have a couple of hundred homes around here that have been affected, so of course the rebuilding goes on for years," said Michael Raphael, Fulton Montgomery County Long Term Recovery Committee Co-chair.
The event kicked off at 8:30 a.m. in Haslett Park.
