ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Law enforcement agencies and fire departments are teaming up across Ulster County during the holiday weekend to enforce New York's DWI laws.
Officials stress that although enforcement is increased during holidays, they are still out there every day. According to Saugerties Police Chief Joesph Sinagra, catching impaired drivers is not the only importance of these checkpoints.
"It's really extremely important that we education the public on the importance of not operating under the influence of alcohol, and, or drugs. And at the same time that we remove those operators who choose to do so, to make our roads safe for the general public," said Sinagra.
Officials said several arrests have been made throughout the weekend.
