ALBANY, N.Y. -- Hundreds of runners participate in the 25th annual SEFCU Labor Day 5K run.
The Mohawk Hudson Runner Club coordinates the event every year. All of the proceeds from this year's race benefit three local organizations. SEFCU held an online vote to determine where the money will go.
Capital City Rescue Mission received the most votes this year and will receive $25,000 in honor of the 25th anniversary race.
"Unique to this year, the runners themselves have begun to donate at least an additional $3,000. So this is truly our community coming out. People helping people, which is really what credit unions and SEFCU are all about," said Michael Castellana, SEFCU President and CEO.
"We are so thankful to the SEFCU family and all these great runners who helped provide for it," said Perry Jones, Capital City Rescue Mission Executive Director. "It is really a boost at this time of year, coming off the summer months. We are just thrilled."
City Mission of Schenectady and Albany Housing Coalition will also receive $2,500 each.
