FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- The Fort Edward man accused of killing his three-month-old son was arraigned in Washington County Court. A grand jury handed up the murder indictment Thursday morning.
Kevin King pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. He's accused of causing the death of his child, baby Brett, by shaking him and slamming him on the floor of the apartment he shared with the child's mother.
When the topic of bail came up, Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright asked the judge to set bail high, but King's defense attorney argued that high bail wasn't necessary.
"I felt it should be at $1 million to $2 million, he felt it should be $75,000 to $150,000. The heinous nature of the case, I have concerns that if he gets out he'll be gone," Kortright said.
The judge set bail at $75,000 cash and $150,000 bond.
