SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Attorneys for Dennis Drue have asked his case be moved out of Saratoga County.
Drue's defense attorney, Stephen Coffey, filed for a change of venue Thursday. Drue's attorney is concerned his client can't get a fair trial.
This latest request coming just a few days after a judge denied Drue's motion to suppress statements he made to police following the accident. However, District Attorney Jim Murphy released a response through Twitter saying he opposes the motion and it's too soon to think about changing the trial's venue. Murphy says the defense needs to wait until the jury selection starts before they can claim the pool is biased.
Drue faces charges including vehicular homicide and manslaughter. He's accused of killing Shenendehowa High School students Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers in car crash last December. Two other passengers, Matt Hardy and Bailey Wind, were seriously injured.
Drue's trial is set to start on September 30th.
