WATERFORD, N.Y. -- Tugboats filled the Erie Canal on Saturday as part of a summer tradition.
The 14th annual Waterford Tugboat Roundup kicked off on Saturday. The weekend long event features music, kid's activities, and tugboats. People have the opportunity to take rides and tours of the tugboats.
According to the organizers, the Tugboat Roundup is a way to relive the history of the marina and teach people about the important role of tugboats in the history of transportation.
"All kinds of tugboats. All of these boats have some sort of history on the canal system and on the Hudson River," said Tom Beardsley, Marina Event Coordinator. "And it's just a great opportunity to learn a little bit about our heritage, relive the canal system, the Hudson River system. The days of old when cargo was pushed back and forth all the time."
The Tugboat Roundup wraps up on Sunday afternoon with an award ceremony.
