ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Wawarsing woman was found guilty on 95 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty Friday.
Last September, Humane Law investigators seized 95 ducks, geese and chickens from a house on Towne Road in Wawarsing. They say overcrowding, dirty conditions and poor diet led to a number of ailments for the animals.
The SPCA says the birds' owner, Kathy Murphy, had a strong attachment to the animals, but couldn't care for them properly. Murphy had to give up the fowl that were seized and will now be required to keep her birds to a specified number. She will also be monitored by the Ulster County SPCA for five years.
