Saturday marks the home opener for UAlbany football, and the first game on the brand new Bob Ford Field. YNN Sports Director Marisa Jacques spoke with Coach Ford ahead of the game.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany football fans have been anticipating the opening of the brand new football field since its groundbreaking in 2012.
The Great Danes will kickoff their first game in the brand new Bob Ford Field. The $19 million multi-sport complex is part of the plan to turn the university's outdated fields into a bigger and more efficient venue for sporting events.
The field is named in honor of longtime head coach Bob Ford. He announced he will retire at the end of this football season. Ford first took over coaching duties at UAlbany in 1970 when football was considered a club team.
During Ford's tenure, the Great Danes have accumulated more than 250 wins. He has also led the team to several titles.
