ALBANY, N.Y. -- World War II veterans boarded a Leatherstocking Honor Flight at Albany International Airport on Saturday.
A pre-boarding ceremony was held for the veterans who traveled to the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. For the past eight years, Honor Flight has been providing a chance for veterans to visit the memorial.
The program has given trips to more than 98,000 veterans.
"It's something we've waited for for years and it finally came, and it's a last hoorah really and I am so proud and my family are all here and it's just wonderful," said Vincent Cerniglia, First Sergeant.
Next, Honor Flight plans to pay tribute to those who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and eventually the veterans of more current wars.
