VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. -- Runners and their four legged friends competed in the first annual Canine Classic 5K.
Owners and their dogs walked and ran in the race to raise money for Guilderhaven. It is a non-profit organization that helps animals in the community.
The event also featured food, raffles, and entertainment. The race was sponsored by the Village Animal Clinic.
According to organizers, they hope this becomes a yearly event.
"We would love for it to definitely continue on as long as this year's successful. It would be a lot easier planning for years to come and we definitely want to keep going with it and keep donating to different charities every year," said Amber Pitcher, a race organizer.
Pitcher said support from the community, the Voorheesville Cross-Country team and clients of the Village Animal Client helped make their first year a success.
