HURLEY, N.Y. -- Two people are dead after a crash in Hurley.
According to the Ulster County Sheriff's Department, the accident happened near the intersection of Route 209 and Wynkoop Road on Sunday. They said John Kaufman, 88, and Anna Kaufman, 86, were killed when their van crossed into the path of a pickup truck.
John died at the scene, and Anna was taken to Albany Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger were not injured.
The owner of nearby store said the intersection has proven to be dangerous in the past.
"There are always people that are going through the stop sign here, and it’s a very difficult intersection to judge how fast people are going on 209. People really fly along on 209," said Glenn Carlberg, Hurley Country Store Owner. "A lot of times we have accidents out there with people pulling out in front of other people."
An investigation into the accident is still ongoing. No charges have been filed.
