COLONIE, N.Y. -- Animal advocates gathered at Crossings Park to raise awareness for the treatment of farm animals.
Activists walked to bring attention to the way animals at factory farms are treated. Organizers say these animals are kept in small stalls, living in deplorable conditions, but now, states like New York are making changes as many consumers are demanding better living conditions for these animals.
"We're seeing in New York State and elsewhere a movement where farm animals are returning to the land. Where there's thought about the farm animal as a being, a living being and not just a unit of production," said Brian Shapiro, New York State Director of the Humane Society of the U.S.
Corporations like McDonald's, Chipotle and Burger King have taken steps to make sure animals on these farms are treated more humanely.
