SELKIRK, N.Y. -- A scary situation for any homeowner. You come home from work or shopping to find your front door open and a man inside. It happened to a Selkirk woman Monday morning on Route 9W.
The woman says she was on her phone when she was walking up to her home. Her door was open and he was confronted by the man inside. She told police she barricaded herself in her room to get away from the man and when she did, she hung up with the person she was on the phone with. The person on the other line then called police.
The man ran away and now officers and using dogs and even helicopters to try to find him.
"During that search, with the RCS High School and Middle School being less than one mile away, we notified them and they went into lock down until we secured the area," said Coeymans Police Chief Gregory Darlington.
The victim wasn't hurt and the man wasn't able to get away with anything. Police aren't giving a description of the suspect at this time.
