NEW YORK STATE -- The state labor department has released local unemployment numbers for the month of August.
The report shows more than 22,000 thousand private sector jobs were added last month and the state unemployment rate rose slightly from 7.5 percent to 7.6 percent.
Taking a look at the local numbers out Tuesday, across upstate, Glens Falls and the Albany-Schenectady-Troy areas had the second and third lowest unemployment rates, respectively.
Kingston had the second highest unemployment rate at 7.6 percent. Still, that's down from nine percent in August 2012. The Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown area reported a seven percent unemployment rate last month, down from 8.2 percent last August.
Ithaca had the lowest with 5.6 percent.
