TROY, N.Y. -- Some residents are expressing concern over a proposed adult store in Troy.
A store that sells adult novelties is expected to be put in at 635 2nd Avenue. Now, many residents are voicing their concerns because it is a main road in the city in a highly visible building.
There is a multi-family apartment building and a convenience store across the street. Troy City Council President Lynn Kopka said she is still learning the specific details about the store. But, many residents are also worried about the type of business it will attract.
"It is a retail establishment, it did not need zoning approval apparently because it's a retail establishment. What that retail establishment encompasses, I am unclear on that," said Kopka.
"During the day, you have a situation where it's somewhat family oriented, a lot of people come to conduct business. But at night, it turns into an element where an adult business adds to that situation of crime," noted Jim Gordon, Troy Neighborhood Watch.
Earlier in September, the city council rejected a plan to allow businesses that sell adult novelty items in South Troy.
