FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- General Electric officials meet with union leaders while GE considers moving its Fort Edward plant to Florida.
If the proposal moves forward, nearly 200 people at the Fort Edward plant would lose their job. However, GE said they are working with the union to reconsider any potential layoffs.
GE released a statement shortly after the proposal, and said competitors are using cost advantages to grow in the industry. Therefore, it has become difficult for GE to sustain business operations in Fort Edward.
Last week, local leaders and economic organizations met to discuss the consequences of the plant closure.
