TROY, N.Y. -- The Department of Justice is giving the City of Troy a grant to help enforce orders of protection and help victims of domestic violence.
The nearly $300,000 grant was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. It's called the Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program Grant.
The City of Troy is teaming up with the Unity House of Troy and Rensselaer County Probation. Funding will be used to encourage arrests in addition to enforcing orders of protection when it comes to victims of domestic violence.
The grant implements certain parts of the Violence Against Women Act, which was enacted in September 1994.
The program enhances victim safety and offender accountability in cases of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault.
